Hi, My name is Cyndi Whitwell, and I have been a Doula since 1986. I really started having a "feel" for this work while preparing for the births of my own three sons. With very long labors, I really appreciated the help of my husband, and my support person.  Using this as my starting point, I have spent years adding to my comfort measures and positions and knowledge of labor.

I have attended over 500 births, as a Doula and was certified in 1996. I participated in the Doula research project at Kaiser South Sacramento for 18 months.

My goal in birth is to support the laboring woman first, and secondly to help dad feel he is as much a part of the birth as he desires to be. Information can add to the peace and comfort in the room.  I try to bring that feeling as well as laughter, tears, hugs - a reminder that this is a wonderful day.

The outcome of a healthy Mom and a healthy Baby is everyone's goal. My concern is to help the family feel they made informed decisions, not look back with regrets over decisions made. For most moms this gives them more of a sense of control of their birth.

As a trained doula, I don't fear labor...I look at it as an awesome challenge that teaches some incredible lessons. Generally, I find that labor brings out the strengths in people and brings couples together.

I take notes during births and write a birth story for you later. I want the birth to be a cherished memory. I am also very actively involved in using "birth-balls" prenatally and during birth, and provide one to each of the families I work with.

I have worked with many moms seeking a VBAC delivery and
know the value of having a birth support person in the room who is confident with this choice.  I have seen successful VBACs and also VBAC births that still allow the mom and dad to make choices and feel more in control of their birth.

I have found so much joy in working as a doula and hope you will consider me for your next birth.
